Two pheasants are drawn on summer flowers such as peonies and dandelions. The pheasant has also been loved as an auspicious bird since ancient times, and its depiction on a gold folding screen is truly spectacular. The pheasant has been selected as Japan’s national bird. There is a legend that if a fire breaks out in the field where a pheasant lives, it will return to its nest to protect its young, without even caring for itself. It seems that the proverb “Yakeno no pheasant" has come to be used as a metaphor for the deep love of a parent. |
