Three quails are playing in the bamboo thicket. The cherry blossoms are depicted in full bloom in the spring weather, and are a collaboration of Japan’s representative designs of bamboo, cherry blossoms, and quail. Since ancient times, quails have been frequently depicted on folding screens as birds with auspicious songs. It is said that during the Sengoku period, people went into battle while listening to the auspicious cry of quail. This historical background is why quails are often depicted on folding screens. |
